Blogging is a major part of how I grew my photography business. As a photography business coach, I stress about the content and format to make your information helpful for your clients. I share many blog writing tips for photographers on my own blog. However, there are some blog SEO tips that are key to help you grow the reach of your blog organically.

SEO is a term thrown around often. People will promise “quick fixes” for big money on your site. However, these simple blog SEO tips will get you on the right path with your blog writing.

Are you ready to get started?

Let’s go!

The first blog SEO tip is to begin with keyword research before you write your post.

As a newborn photographer, I will come up with blog topics that help tell about my style of photography. Without keyword research I may think that lifestyle newborn photographer would be the perfect keyword. However, actual keyword research shows me that the search volume is very low. In other words, no one is searching for a “lifestyle newborn photographer.”

This blog SEO tip is about helping you ensure what you are writing about will actually get found.

You can use free sites like Semrush, or Ubbersuggest for your keyword research.

Next, break up your text with headings.

Writing blogs with big strings of text not only can be overwhelming for readers, but isn’t effective blogging SEO. Instead, using headings (specifically header 2, or h2) in your post.

Look at this post for an example. Each time I share a new tip, it is another heading. As you can see, it is also bolder, so if you were to skim the page, you could grasp the blog SEO tips of this post.

Another blog SEO tip is to use alt text properly.

Alt text is specifically designed for the visually impaired to be able to know what an image is of when using special readers. Google also uses it to “see” what photos are of.

This is not the place to keyword stuff, but naturally use photos that support your keyword. Including your keyword in your image alt text is a blog SEO tip. However, I must stress to only include it on an image if it applies to that image.

Finally, use links within your blog.

The last blog SEO tip is to use both internal and external links within your post.

An internal link is one that goes back to another page or blog post on your own site. An external link is one that goes to another site altogether.

It is important that these links are relevant to the blog you are writing. Think of helpful ways to share links within your site. For examples of this blog SEO tip, look at this very post and notice the links I shared.

These 4 blog SEO tips are simple changes you can make to how you write your blogs.

By using proper keywords, headings, alt text and links your blogs will be on a great start.

Blog SEO tips is just one of the many categories covered in my course, Blogging Masters Course for Photographers. Imagine having a step-by-step process to writing blogs that not only will save you time, but help you grow your photography business. Get that and more in the course.
