When I walked into this family’s home for their newborn photos, I was immediately transported back to the first weeks with my first born child. These parents had a deep look of love and adoration towards their sweet new baby. There were also plenty of jokes about who’s turn it was to change the 100th diaper that morning (trust me when I say that when diaper #101 comes, you’ll be thankful you chose to have newborn photos at home!). While I swaddled their baby girl, they watched closely- who has any idea how to swaddle before kids? I remember watching the nurses at length the exact same way!
How should having your newborn pictures at home feel?
In a word: easy. This session felt like I was just chatting with friends as they snuggled their baby girl. It was a relaxed morning at home taking newborn pictures. Throughout the shoot, we took breaks for feedings and coffee, and moved around the house a little capturing the nursery and the “big bed”. Along the way, their two pups and kitty were always close by. They wanted to make sure I knew they were a part of the family, of coarse. They cracked me up! Including your fur babies is another great perk of having newborn photos at home. Obviously they were not wanting to leave baby sister’s side at this point!
By the time we wrapped up the session, I was feeling fulfilled from this family welcoming me to take their newborn pictures at home. Not only that, but also creatively from the amazing gallery I knew we created together.
Is home the right setting for your session?
Whether you want posed newborn photos or a more organic approach, taking your newborn pictures at home can tick all your boxes. You may want to photograph the perfect moments with your baby, but the reality (and beauty of it all) can be far from it. From packing the diaper bag and getting dressed for instance, to the frequent feedings and diaper changes. All thing considered, getting out the door can feel like a marathon! The ease of having your newborn pictures at home and capturing your new family in your space full of life is beyond perfection.
All in all, there were too many favorite photos of this beautiful newborn at home with her sweet family, so I’ll share just a “few”. So grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and enjoy!
