The first decision when it comes to having photos of your baby is where you want your session to take place. Do you want newborn photos at home or at a studio? As a lifestyle Seattle area photographer, I cannot offer any advice or tips for studio photo sessions. However, I can share all of the reasons to love newborn photos in your home.
Having newborn photos in your home allows for a more relaxed session.
As a mom of 6, I can vividly remember the newborn days. I cherished those early snuggles and wanted it documented. However, the last thing I wanted to do was pack up my baby (and family) and go somewhere for photos. There are enough doctors appointment visits in the beginning.
With newborn photos at home you can relax as I come to you. Further, everyone is more comfortable in their own space, with their favorite things nearby. You do not have to overthink packing for the “just in case.” For example, what if baby spits up or has a diaper blow out? You’ll have easy access to back up outfits for baby and yourself should baby get your outfit with their spit up.
Moreover, snuggling up on your own couch or master bed is simply more comfortable.
Lifestyle, in home photo sessions allow for storytelling details of those early days with your baby.
The space you bring home your babies is sacred. Whether or not that space is your forever home, your home (or apartment or condo) will be special. Having newborn photos at home allow the space to be forever captured.
Even more, all of those storytelling details of YOUR family’s experience bringing home baby will be captured. Because everyone is more comfortable and not rushed, the story can unfold. The way baby unfolds on your chest after nursing can be photographed. The way your toddler would connect with their newest sibling is captured with newborn photos at home. Furthermore, any pets are easily included, too.
Unsure what to expect for photos with a toddler? I have you covered. First, remember, I am a mom of 6. I have had my share of toddlers. I have also been photographing families and newborns for over a decade. Not only do I have a few tricks up my sleeves for capturing connection, families who work with me rave about how laid back the experience was. My calm demeanor allows kids to feel comfortable and relaxed for newborn photos at home.
These sessions are not about being “picture perfect.”
Your gallery of photographs will be a collection of images that capture YOUR family’s unique personality and story. They are not one perfect photo, but the beautiful in the often messy, everyday life.
Does that mean, you have to be a natural in front of the camera for newborn photos? Of course not. I will guide and direct you into flattering and comfortable poses that open the door for connection and moments to unfold.
