Goal setting: does the thought of this leave you feeling overwhelmed?
Fear and doubt can get in our way. You want something that pushes yourself, your business. However, what if you don’t achieve your goals?
Further, as you think of all of the possibilities for the year and a list of potential goals, well that just feels endless and, once again, unachievable.
So where do you even begin with goal setting?
The first step for effective goal setting is to start with a brain dump.
Grab and pen and paper and set a timer for 5 minutes. Write down absolutely EVERYTHING that comes to mind. There is no judgement here. Do not overthink things, or think, that’s too easy, or too hard. Instead, just write it all down. You may even end up adding something you need at the store or something that’s more of a “to do” than a goal. That’s okay.
The point of the brain dump is to stop yourself from overthinking.
Later you can go ahead and critique your list, remove items, add to it, or move those random tasks to your to-do list. See what you wrote down, where did you go when you didn’t let your brain get in the way?
Now you’re ready to really nail down your goals!
