The location for your family photo session is just as important as deciding what to wear. As a Seattle family photographer, I stress that I am capturing your family and not the location. However, a good location has good light, provides variety of looks, and offers something for your family to do together. Lincoln Park in West Seattle, checks all the boxes for an amazing family photography location.
Located near the Fauntleroy ferry, Lincoln Park is a large park perfect for family photos.
Seattle locations will often be crowded, especially on summer weekends. However, Lincoln park’s large size allows for plenty of spots without others in your family photo’s background. I have photographed numerous families at this location and never felt it was too crowded.
This location has a great variety within the park.
If you’re like me and love the feeling of a park for family photos, but also love the the beach, Lincoln Park is for you.
We begin our session near the upper parking lot. Here you’ll find wooded trails. The large trees filter the sunlight while it’s still a little too high by the water. Your children can find sticks, or help pick the path we take down to the water. As we continue our session we end down on the beach by the water. Even more, we can usually catch the ferry as it docks nearby.
Lincoln Park gives you the best of the park and beach location all in one spot.
Lincoln Park’s waterfront has gorgeous sunsets.
Being right on the water in Seattle means you can have that gorgeous low sunlight wrapping around your family. Families who select this location comment how much they love their photos from the end of the session, as the sun set.
Lincoln Park’s location means sunset it beautiful even if it is cloudy, too. So don’t fret if the PNW decides to hide the sunshine on your family photo session day.
This location works well for family photos for all ages.
With the variety Lincoln Park offers, and the ability to move around, this location works well for young kids with short attention spans. From finding sticks and stomping on pine cones in the woods to skipping rocks into the water, kids of all ages will love Lincoln Park.
If you’re bringing the grandparents along, I will warn that this location does have a steep walk down to the water. However, there is accessible parking right by the water should they want to simply drive to meet your family for photos by the water.
