Hi, I'm Neyssa

What do you imagine when you visualize your baby’s newborn photos? What do you want your newborn photography session experience to feel like? Are you unsure? Are you still debating between photos in a studio or newborn photography in your home? Keep reading for why you will truly cherish having a professional photographer come to you.

Let’s back up a moment. I completely understand the allure of a studio. My first two kids were born and we lived in a rental with PURPLE carpet. How could anyone possibly create beautiful photos there? I even played with a few props and poses, yet it never felt right for me or my own babies.

Newborn photography is not about baskets or baby looking like a frog. It also isn’t about photographing a home (nor that purple carpet). It is about capturing the love and joy surrounding that newborn baby. Now I can’t imagine using a studio because there is so much I love about going to each family’s home to photograph their new baby.

So why will you love newborn photography in home?

Everyone is comfortable during an in-home newborn photography session.

When you don’t even have to put on your shoes and can relax on your own couch, you are immediately more at ease. It is easier and more comfortable for mom to nurse when she’s in her own space, with her own support. There is also that ease in not having to pack up everything to head to a studio. The morning can feel more relaxed as you prepare for your newborn photography session in your home.

The first time I left my home with my first born, it took me an extra 2 hours to feel packed and ready to go. I also packed half my house for all the “just in case” things that could happen.

That is added stress no one needs on picture day.

Details Make Your Newborn Photo Session Yours

A newborn session isn’t just about that sweet baby, but about your family. When we are in your home we can capture the nursery and its details you poured your heart into putting together for your baby. We can also capture you as a family on the couch or on the big bed, two places you actually spend your time. When you look at your photos, you will be brought right back to those first weeks at home with your baby.

If the thought of having your home photographed brings you stress, please relax. As a Seattle photographer, I will capture those details if available. However, I have also photographed an entire newborn photo session in 5 square feet of the master bedroom of a small, condo. The family cherishes those photos from the home and space they brought home their baby boy. And if you have ugly purple carpet like my first rental home had, we can avoid it. Well, I’ll probably capture it in one photo so you have proof to laugh at one day with the kids. However, then we will focus on those details that make your home, your family, YOU.

Another reason to love newborn photography in your home is that spit up happens.

Babies spit up and blow out diapers. It’s just part of the territory with babies. When you are in your home there is no stress about now having spit up all over your clothes, you can easily change. Or should she blow out a diaper and need a new onesie/blanket/outfit no problem because you’re in your own home.

Further, siblings can come and go during your photo session.

Let’s be honest, there is only so much snuggling the baby that a sibling can handle. With newborn photography sessions in your home, kids can take breaks. They can grab a snack, play with their toys and them come back ready for more photos.

Even more, when the older kids are shy in the beginning, being in their own home helps them to feel comfortable. Usually, by the end of the session are showing me their rooms and favorite toys. Giving kids this freedom to come and go, they also come back sweeter than ever. There is something about not having to “perform” that allows them to love and snuggle the baby when they are ready.

Babies are beautiful just as they are.

After photographing newborns for over 10 years (and having had 6 newborns babies of my own), I have seen how babies are so beautiful just as they are. They don’t need to be specially posed or in a particular wrap to be beautiful. Each baby unfolds themself in a special way.

Often parents will see images of their baby and say, “She always did that in utero! We have an ultrasound picture like that!” They are best snuggled into mom and dad’s arms, right at home, where they belong.

Newborn photography in home documents your baby as they are meant to be. They are less stressed because they are not forced into unnatural props and poses. You are less stressed because your baby is comfortable how I photograph them. In the end you walk away with honest, timeless photos, that honestly tell your baby’s story.

Grandparents can be present for newborn photography in your home, too.

Oftentimes, families will have the grandparents around to help with older siblings while I’m working with mom, dad, and the baby. Whether they are in town for a week or visiting for the day, having their help is priceless. It also allows us to capture a few quick shots of the grandparents with their grandchildren.

Your parents and your children will be grateful to have photos together. What a gift to give them both!

In the end, newborn photography in home sessions give you a relaxed experience and gorgeous, timeless photographs.
