As a Seattle maternity and newborn photographer, most of my maternity sessions are booked by moms. So, when this father contacted me, I was not only surprised, I was so excited. He had a 3-year-old son and a baby girl on the way and wanted it documented every step of the way. Further, he sent me the sweetest (like, made me tear up) video he had put together for his wife for Mother’s day, just so I could get to know his family a little bit before even meeting them. Then as we began to discuss locations, he mentioned two favorite places, Tanner Landing Park and Gold Creek Pond. We settled on Gold Creek for Snoqualmie Pass maternity photos.
The location and the family didn’t disappoint. We met on a gorgeous summer evening and made magical photos together. My heart soared afterward from excitement. The beautiful light, the stunning mountains, and the love and anticipation for their baby girl made their maternity photo session one to remember.
So what makes Snoqualmie Pass a great spot for maternity photos?
Snoqualmie Pass has several locations where you can get gorgeous mountain views. Many of these spots are accessible, and friendly for pregnant mamas and kids alike.
When you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Seattle, Snoqualmie pass is less than an hour drive. Another reason Snoqualmie Pass maternity photos are a favorite for many families I work with.
Sunset in the mountains is a little earlier, perfect for younger kids.
Another reason to love Snoqualmie Pass maternity photos is the sunsets. Because the sun “sets” behind the mountains a little earlier, you don’t have to have as late of sessions. This is big in the summer months when sunset is not until closer to 9 pm (meaning maternity photo sessions begin around 8 pm).
For this featured session (which took place in June, when the sun sets at the latest during the year) we were able to start closer to 6:30 pm.
If you know your children cannot make that late session time, consider a location like the Snoqualmie Pass for maternity photos.
What else can you expect from a Snoqualmie Pass maternity photo session?
Just like any pregnancy photo session, we will focus on your family. There will be belly kisses, hugs, and playing together as a family. There will be movement, silliness, laughter, and lots of snuggles for your maternity photos.
Your baby bump will be the highlight of the session, ensuring you are comfortable and look your best.
Your maternity photos at Snoqualmie Pass will also highlight your family before baby. Consider it a celebration, an honor to your excitement and to the family before your newborn baby arrives.
For a family who loves the great outdoors, Snoqualmie Pass is the perfect spot for maternity photos.
When is the best time of year for Maternity Photos on Snoqualmie Pass?
Snoqualmie pass is great most of the year for maternity photos. There is snow in winter, and gorgeous greenery in summer.
However, some spots (like Gold Creek Pond) are much more difficult to get to during the winter months. The roads aren’t always plowed and means walking/hiking in. Of course, if you love the snowy look and want Snoqualmie Pass as the backdrop for your maternity photos, we will find the right spot for your family.
When should you book your maternity photography session?
No matter where you want your session to take place, you should book your maternity photography session in the late first trimester to the early second trimester. This not only ensures you’re reserved a space on my calendar, but it also gives you time to prepare. If you are due in fall months, booking as early as possible ideal.
Maternity sessions take place anytime after 30 weeks. Most mothers opt for somewhere between 32 and 36 weeks. This allows their baby bump to be nice and full, without them feeling too uncomfortable. It also gives you time for rescheduling those maternity photos, should the weather not cooperate!
