“Such a beautiful, candid moment!” Have you seen that as a caption somewhere on a photo on social media? Did you love the photo and then immediately decide that your family is much too chaotic and wild for beautiful “candid” lifestyle family photos?
Maybe you have felt like you’re much too awkward to be naturally beautiful in such candid photos.
Guess what. Lifestyle family photos are perfect for your family.
This is a pretty bold statement for me to make, especially since I may have never met your family. However, the very nature of lifestyle photography lends itself to work beautifully with any family who loves the look.
Still not convinced lifestyle can work for your family? Wonderful, I love to chat, so let’s continue to look at what Lifestyle Family Photography really is (and is not) to help you understand how it can work for any family.
Lifestyle Family Photos are not candid photos of your family.
Let me repeat that. Lifestyle family photos are not candid.
Truly candid photos are a more documentary approach.
Because I like to be exact, I looked up the definition of candid (according to Google). Candid means “taken informally, especially without the subject’s knowledge.”
Given the fact that a family has hired a lifestyle photographer, you are very aware of your photo being taken.
While lifestyle photography has a natural look and feel to them, the family is directed during the entire session and guided into positions.
I provide prompts that get you snuggling, or playing, or exploring together in a way that photographs beautifully. I help you look your best, while making you look like the beautiful family you are. The guidance is done in a way that leads to natural smiles and allows you to focus less on me photographing your family and more on playing with your family at the park.
What does this mean for you?
You can rest easy because your family does not have to know what to do in front of the camera.
Your family does not have to be “perfectly” candid or act like you’re straight out of a Hallmark movie.
Best of all, you can have the confidence knowing that lifestyle photography is right for your family.

If you’re convinced, then grab a spot on my calendar and I will see your family for a (non-candid) lifestyle family photo session.
