As you’re planning for your newborn session, you might find yourself wondering “when is the best time of day for in home newborn photos?”
The best time of day for in-home newborn photos is 10 am.
By 10 am the light indoors is beautiful. It isn’t overpowering nor is it still too dark of those early morning hours. Later in the day the sun is too far overhead to provide nice light inside.
This time of day is always when baby is typically happiest (as the afternoons and evenings are when the witching hour and fatigue can hit everyone).
It’s also a little later allowing mom and dad to get up and get themselves, and any other children, ready for their in-home newborn photos.
What if I’m still tired or the baby had a tough night?
I’m sorry for breaking the news to you, but nights full of broken sleep and multiple wake-ups are around for a while. (My daughter, Cohen, didn’t sleep through the night until she was over 12 months old).
However, I also don’t expect you to be perfectly ready when I arrive, or seemingly well rested. The beauty of the session is you don’t have to leave your house. Plus it will be completely relaxed. You’re going to be snuggling your baby, drinking coffee, feeding the baby as needed, and just chatting all while I document your family.
So please don’t fret about not feeling “wide-eyed and bushy-tailed” even at 10am for your in-home newborn photos. But I promise your gallery of photographs will beautifully capture you and your baby at this special time.
If you’re in the Seattle area and looking for a newborn photographer, contact me and we can get your due date on my calendar. Consider it taking care of things before the baby arrives, another way of nesting!
