Hi, I'm Neyssa

Family photo sessions can sometimes feel intimidating for dads. You may wonder, “What do I wear?” or “What exactly am I supposed to do?” Don’t worry! My family sessions are relaxed and playful, and I’m here to provide some simple tips for dads to ensure you feel comfortable and look great during the shoot.

What to Expect During a Family Photoshoot

As your Seattle family photographer, my goal is to capture genuine connection and joy between you and your family. This means you won’t be stuck in stiff poses the entire time. Instead, you’ll be interacting with your family—whether that’s tossing your kids in the air, chasing them around, or snuggling up with your partner.

I’ll only ask for a couple of those classic “look and smile at the camera” moments. The rest of the time, you get to focus on playing and connecting with your loved ones. So, if you’re worried about awkwardly standing around, rest assured that my sessions are fun and low-pressure. I promise to offer plenty of prompts and help to ensure you’re family is comfortable, looks great, and most of all feels natural!

Tips for Dad: What to Wear

Let’s face it, knowing what to wear can be tough, but I’ve got some quick tips for dads to help you feel comfortable while looking your best.

  • Comfort is Key
Since you’ll likely be lifting your kids, tossing them in the air, or even putting them on your shoulders, make sure your clothing allows for movement. Choose something you can comfortably move and play in. If you’re a fan of button-up shirts, go for one that fits well—not too tight—so you’re not popping buttons mid-session! You want to feel confident and comfortable.
  • Wear an Undershirt
A simple undershirt can be your best friend during a playful family session. It ensures that when you lift your kids or play around, you won’t have to worry about your shirt coming up and revealing your stomach. Plus, it adds an extra layer of comfort!
  • Avoid Overly Baggy Clothes
While comfort is essential, overly baggy clothes can look sloppy in photos. Choose something fitted but not tight. A well-fitting shirt and pants can go a long way in helping you feel put together while still being practical.

Tips for Dad: Playful Interaction

Family photo sessions with me are all about natural moments, so expect to be involved in playful interaction. I’ll encourage you to play with your kids and partner, whether it’s tossing your child in the air or giving them a piggyback ride. These candid moments are where the magic happens. I want to capture the joy and love you share with your family. That happens when you’re engaged and having fun.

Tips for Dad: Minimal Posing

While I’ll guide you into a few moments of looking at the camera, the majority of the session will focus on capturing the natural interactions between you and your family. You don’t have to worry about holding awkward poses or feeling stiff. Just relax, enjoy the time, and let the connection with your loved ones shine through.

Final Tips for Dad: Relax and Be Yourself

The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and being yourself. There’s no need to stress over looking perfect. Let your family’s love and connection guide the session, and you’ll have photos you’ll cherish for years to come.

Wrapping It Up

Family photos are about capturing the beauty of your family’s love and connection—not about looking perfect. With these simple tips for dads, you’ll feel prepared and ready to have fun during your session. So, get ready to toss your kids in the air, share some laughs, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
