In over a decade of photographing newborns in their home, I have never walked into a home where I couldn’t capture beautiful photos.
Let that sink in and help you relax a little bit.
You do not have to have a home that was fixed up by Chip and Joanna. Nor do you need to have a spotless home. You just had a baby. I expect there to be things around the house.
Remember, a photographer isn’t coming to your home to photograph your home (unless you’re selling it!). I am there to capture your beautiful little miracle, your family loving on that fresh baby.
So what do you really need for your in-home newborn photo session?
You need a window for natural light for newborn photos.
I’m sure your home has a window just perfect for your photos. When I arrive in your home, I will tour your home to find the best spot(s) which will have the best window light.
There’s no need to have a spotless house, or fret your house is too small, or worry that you don’t have floor to ceiling windows. Once I find the right spot, your partner and I can clear aside anything that needs to be out of the frame and you’ll never know there was a water bottle and pile of baby clothes and diapers just out of frame.
You’ll also need a well fitting gown or onesie for baby.
You don’t need any fancy outfits or props for newborn photos. In fact, I don’t photograph babies in “outfits” or use any props. The focus is on your baby and all of those tiny details. The best way to do this is with a onesie or gown that fits well and can show off those toes, fingers, and tummy.
At Target you can get plain white onesies (I suggest the premie size to fit well). Another favorite place is Loulou and Company for baby gowns that fit beautifully. (Continue to read other outfit ideas for newborn baby.)
Bonus, if you are comfortable we can even have baby just in a diaper part of the time to really show off those baby details.
Finally, we need YOU for your newborn photo session.
Yup, that’s right. YOU are a key ingredient for beautiful newborn photos.
Your baby wants to be held and snuggled. Your baby wants to be in your arms, wants to feel secure and comfortable and that’s where we will photograph baby.
That’s it. No light set ups. No props (I do not use any artificial lights or props in my newborn photography at all). Just your family, loving on baby with some beautiful window light.
Doesn’t that sound refreshing and relaxing? If you’re expecting, now’s the time to get your session booked. I will help you feel prepared for your session and you can rest assured knowing your baby’s newborn days will be beautifully and authentically photographed.
