When you think of the University of Washington, iconic cherry blossoms might come to mind. However, this Seattle gem offers so much more than just a springtime bloom. Whether you’re planning maternity photos, updating your family portraits, or gathering extended family together, the UW campus provides a stunning and unique backdrop for your session.
From architectural beauty to natural charm, the University of Washington campus is full of hidden (and not-so-hidden) gems that make for a relaxed and beautiful spot for photos that feel fun and meaningful.

Why Choose the University of Washington for Your Photo Session?

There’s something magical about photographing families among UW’s historic buildings, sprawling green lawns, and peaceful corners that blend urban and natural vibes. If you or your partner are alumni, choosing the University of Washington for your photo session can add that extra layer of meaning and nostalgia.
Even if you don’t have ties to the school, the location offers an elegant, unexpected setting for photos that feel different from the usual park or field. You’ll find:
- Stunning architecture that gives photos a timeless, elevated feel.
- The Quad, which is famous for cherry blossoms but equally beautiful the rest of the year with its symmetry and tree-lined paths.
- The Drumheller Fountain, with Mount Rainier sometimes making an appearance on clear days.
- Plenty of open spaces for kids to move around or grandparents to relax while still being in the heart of a gorgeous setting.

A Great Fit for All Kinds of Sessions
The University of Washington is one of those rare locations that works well no matter who you is being photographed. It’s versatile enough for:
- Maternity photos, whether it’s your first baby or you’re wrangling a few toddlers while celebrating another little one on the way.
- Family sessions, where your kids can run ahead and explore while we capture playful moments in front of beautiful backdrops.
- Extended family portraits give everyone room to gather together while still creating images that don’t feel stiff or overly posed.
With a little planning, we can move from one location to the next without needing to walk too far. This gives your gallery a variety of looks without the stress of a long hike.

Things to Know About the University of Washington Campus
Like any location, there are a few things to consider before booking your session here.
Cherry Blossom Season = Crowds
Yes, the cherry blossoms in the UW Quad are as dreamy as they look in photos. But during peak bloom (usually late March to early April), the crowds are intense. Thousands of visitors come each day to take in the scene. If you want beautiful photos without a crowd of strangers, a weekday session is your best bet. Or, plan your session for another season—the quad and campus still shine year-round.
Parking Can Be Tricky
Because this is an active university campus, you’ll likely need to pay for parking. You will also need to allow extra time to find a spot and walk to our meeting point. I’ll help guide you to the easiest options depending on the time of day and where we plan to shoot.

Capturing Connection on Campus
As with all my sessions, your time on the University of Washington campus won’t be about stiff poses. We’ll focus on connection—whether that’s a toddler twirling in front of Suzzallo Library, a snuggle with your partner near the fountain, or your whole family laughing under a tree on the quad. Even if you’re not usually comfortable in front of the camera, I’ll help you feel at ease so your photos reflect the love and joy of your family just as you are.
