A few weeks ago, I was blessed with the opportunity to go on a women’s retreat with a friend. We stayed at this beautiful home with craft barn on Whidbey Island. It didn’t take long to get there, but I felt free from all the stresses of everyday life.
What is a women’s retreat? This one was about crafting. Everyone had their own table and worked on whatever suited her fancy. Many scrapbooked and made cards, some sewed, crocheted, and one even painted a bookcase! What did I do on this women’s retreat? I brought my computer and worked on my own family 2013 photo book. I also started crocheting a scarf for myself, went for a few runs, wrote in my journal, read a book, and got to know some pretty amazing women.
Now one of the rules for this group’s women’s retreat is “what happens on the island, stays on the island.” I very much appreciate that rule as I may have shared my top secret middle name. But I must share one of the things I learned about several of these women. They love to scrapbook and they love taking photos. You should see their pages, so beautiful. However, they don’t know a thing about using their camera (sound familiar)? Upon learning I was a photographer, one woman asked me if I taught workshops. As I began to tell her that I do teach workshops and what they entail I could feel her excitement rise. Several of the other women, too, were excited about taking the workshop, and we are in talks for setting it up for their future women’s retreat.
This started me thinking. How many of you have a group of women that you get away with on a regular basis? Whether it’s your women’s retreat is for scrapbooking, a spa weekend, or just a weekend full of chatting, you could add to your weekend by hosting a photography workshop! Wouldn’t it be so much fun to have one of the days be learning how to use your cameras, becoming empowered as the storytellers for your family? If you’d like to find out more information on hosting either the Budding Confidence Workshop or Growing Confidence Workshop, send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We can discuss all of the details for making your women’s retreat even more giving to you and your creative spirit!
P.S. Spring sessions are filling up! Only a few more spots available. Make sure you book your spring session before it is too late!
