A few weeks ago, two ladies spent the day learning to use a DSLR with me in my Photography Workshop for Moms. I admit, I wasn’t sure I was up for doing a workshop so soon after having a baby. It would mean a full day away from Hudson. However, I’m so glad I did. Because was so amazing to be a part of these ladies’ photography journeys.
We spent the morning learning to use a DSLR by practicing skills on things around the house (like Milo’s matchbox cars). Here is Heidi practicing using different apertures on these cars.
After learning the magic formula for shooting in manual, we brought in the mammas and babies. And we had two cuties! Our first baby, was a baby girl that’s just a tad older then Hudson! The ladies captured some gorgeous shots of her!
Heidi captured this sweet moment of mom and baby. Don’t you just love the light in baby girl’s eyes and how mom is adoring her daughter?! What a beautiful shot! (And isn’t that headband too cute?! Mom has an Etsy shop, Manda’s BOWtique. Yes, I had to order a couple for my girls!)
One of the reasons I have the ladies photographing the same baby at the same time is that it forces them to think of new shots. Bri did a beautiful job capturing this moment from a different angle. I LOVE it! She shows how you don’t need to see baby’s face, or all of mom to know this is a special moment between mother and daughter.
The second baby was this sweet baby boy and his mama. He started off so mellow, enjoying some snuggles with mom. Bri nailed it with this next image. Wow. Those eyes, moms soft presence, and the background that just drops off, leaving mother and child to stand out. What a shot girl!
We gave baby boy a couple of cars to play with and we were all laughing when he put a car into his mouth and held onto it like a dog. Mom said it was something he does all the time. Bri captured this defining detail perfectly! I’m sure mom will see this image a year from now and still get a chuckle of how her boy used to hold onto his cars!
We changed up our location and to let this little guy loose to play on the bed. Heidi captured this sweet, contemplative moment. I just love how mom’s hand is on his knee, showing her presence without having to fully show her. So precious!
I’m so glad I spent the day with these ladies as they were learning to use a DLSR. They both went from shooting in auto mode, hoping for “happy accidents” to shooting in manual, capturing gorgeous photos of our baby models!
The next photography workshop won’t be until this fall! If you can’t wait to start learning to use your DSLR, I suggest you follow my blog for photos tips! Or gather some friends, pick a date and contact me about setting up your own private workshop this summer!
