The day before Easter the kids had their first egg hunt! Since we are vegan, we don’t color eggs, and we didn’t think about doing a hunt before. So when I received a notice in the mail that a local Y was holding an “Egg-straviganza,” I thought it would be a fun way for the kids to partake in their first egg hunt.
Trying to explain to a 3 year old, let alone a 19 month old that you only get 7 eggs is interesting. Sawyer kept throwing them in her bag, but I would toss them back when she went for another. She loved picking up the eggs. Luckily, she didn’t realize that they have candy or toys in them. That made it that much easier to confiscate (aka give to Grandpa Bob) the non-vegan candies.
Milo didn’t fully understand the egg hunt idea either. He saw the bouncy houses in the distance and wanted to go straight there. But he did get 7 eggs, but was ready to move on!
Then it was on to the bouncey houses. Milo was so excited. I decided to let Sawyer try it, unsure if she would be too small or timid. Oh no, she LOVED it!
That smaller bouncey house wasn’t enough. Milo asked to go on the big kids one. Mama bear in me imagined all of the ways he could get too scared or hurt himself. But the look my father gave me meant I was letting him do it. And he loved it.
Oh yes, so did Sawyer. She doesn’t let her small size get in her way. I can hear her squeal with delight when I look at this photo!
Another highlight (once again, better then the first egg hunt) was the fire truck Milo got to sit in. It was like a dream come true. I wasn’t sure if I would ever get him out.
Let’s not forget the Easter Bunny! He (she? I don’t know the gender of the Easter bunny, hmmm..) was there too. Sawyer was really excited. Until my mom tried to take her up to him.
The kids’ first egg hunt was nothing like the ones I remember, but we had a fun adventure anyways. I was fortunate to have my parents there to help me (Derek was in Bandon golfing) otherwise it would have been truly insane!
Have any great Easter photos? I would love to see! Share them on my Facebook page.
