Hi, I'm Neyssa

I love defining details. A recent important defining detail was for me to capture her playing with baby, or “bebe” as Sawyer says. I admit that when Sawyer was born, my world was turned upside down. A girl! What would I do with a girl? I didn’t want to inundate her with pink (we did, I mean, what do you do with a bald baby that people call a boy if she’s not in pink?) or pressure her to play with dolls or do “girl” things. However, that’s exactly what she wants to do, is play with her baby.  Don’t get me wrong, she plays trains and cars with brother, she pushes a bulldozer around the yard and she can get dirtier than any child I know playing in the dirt. But she is also this sweet baby girl who loves to take care of her baby.
Typically I like to set the stage and “prepare” for capturing a defining detail. Yet, Sawyer set this one up all on her own. She had two babies and started playing on the stairs. There were no distractions, and by opening the front door I was able to let in beautiful light to capture her playing with her baby.

Capture her playing with baby, toddler girl with dollI love how she lays her baby down and then covers her up. Usually she covers her face, which cracks me up. We never cover Sawyer’s face with a blanket (unless we’re playing peek-a-boo)!

Then she picks her up and holds her in her arms, just so. Again, I never carried Sawyer that way, but I love how she holds onto her baby. Then she will lay her baby down, cover her up, pick her up, carry her to a new location. And the process repeats.Capture her playing with baby, toddler girl with dollThe entire time she’s saying “bebe, bebe, bebe.” This is my favorite image, because I can hear her saying “bebe” over and over. And notice, she’s getting the blanket ready to lay baby back down for a nap again. Capture her playing with baby, toddler girl with doll

I’m so glad I took the time to capture her playing with her baby. While she will probably continue to play with dolls for a while, the way in which she does it will probably change as she gets older. I want to forever remember her little voice saying “bebe, bebe” as she goes through her routine of taking care of her baby.
